How to save and continue a Gemini chat

TryCarbon AI saves chat messages to your signed-in account. Open Your conversations, select an earlier title and send a follow-up in the same conversation. You do not need to copy the entire exchange back into the composer.

Find an earlier conversation

On desktop, the conversation list is beside the chat. On a narrow screen, use the menu button in the chat toolbar. The title comes from the first message. If you cannot see a conversation, first check that you are signed in to the same account.

Use Refresh history after a network interruption. A message may have reached the server even if the browser stopped displaying the stream. Refreshing is safer than immediately sending the same request again.

Continue with a specific follow-up

Refer to the part you want changed: “Keep the first paragraph, shorten the explanation of caching, and add an example with a repeated question.” This gives the model a concrete edit while the previous exchange supplies context.

History is not free input. Earlier messages are sent with the next request, so a long conversation can cost more than a fresh chat with the same final question. The usage guide explains where those tokens appear.

When to start a fresh chat

Start a new conversation when you change topics or reach the context limit. Summarize only the facts and constraints needed for the next task. Keep source text when exact wording matters; a summary can lose details.

Choose a context window beneath the composer: 128K, 256K, 512K or 1M (default 128K). The server counts the conversation, instructions and your new message before calling the model. If the selected window is exceeded, the conversation shows a New Chat button; it does not automatically compress, summarize, discard old messages or start a new conversation. Your saved history stays available. Each reply still has a maximum 4,096 output tokens including thinking, and a smaller balance can reduce that output limit.

Export or archive

The export button downloads the selected conversation as a Markdown file. Review it before sharing: the file contains your prompts as well as the answers. Export does not create a public URL.

The archive control removes a conversation from the active history list. Archiving is not permanent erasure of account records. To request deletion of stored personal data, use Contact. Active generations must finish before a conversation can be archived.

An answer is still pending

A stopped or disconnected request can leave usage awaiting verification. It does not freeze credits or create a second payment. Keep the conversation and contact support if the pending entry does not resolve. Do not start repeated copies of the same request to troubleshoot it.

Return to your conversations, or learn how credits are settled.
